Celebration – Annual Gala Auction Event Raising the Bar in Brisbane
On Friday 18 October Brisbane Youth Service (BYS) will host their 3rd annual gala cocktail event at Minter Ellison Lawyers, Level 22, Waterfront Place, Brisbane. Celebration will feature exciting performances, prizes, and a live and silent auction – featuring exceptional artwork by BYS young people and some of Australia’s most celebrated contemporary artists.
Last year’s gala event attracted a sell-out crowd and raised over $26,000 for the charity. This year Brisbane Youth Service aim to raise the bar with an even greater array of exceptional artwork, performances and prizes. DJ Benn Hopkins and Jon Manning will provide musical entertainment, and guests will be treated to a special Bollywood vs Breakdance dance off – the first of it’s kind!
Comedian Terry Hansen from 97.3fm’s Breakfast Radio Show will host the live auction where bidders will have the chance to take home some incredible items including their very own Anthony Lister, an artist often described as “Australia’s best Contemporary Artist”, raised in Brisbane and taking the art world by storm. Guests can also purchase signed prints from internationally regarded Brisbane artist Ellen Stapleton, who currently has work in the Van Gough Museum in Paris. One young artist who is thrilled to be exhibiting alongside these established art stars is emerging talent and previous BYS client, Joshua Blake.
Blake, now 21, has captured the attention of art lovers all over Brisbane with his unique blend of street and contemporary styles. Blake has been working non-stop on commissions since completing a diploma of visual art last year and winning the Jugglers Mentorship earlier this year. Growing up in a rough neighbourhood, Blake, who describes himself as hyperactive, often found himself in trouble with local police for minor graffiti offenses – a means for releasing built up energy and creative passion. Realising this was the means to a bleak end, Blake, with the help of BYS, has completely turned over a new leaf, legitimising his art practice through burying himself in commissions, exhibitions and completing a BA of Fine Art with Griffith University.
With a vision to provide ‘New Futures for Young People’, Brisbane Youth Service has helped thousands of disadvantaged and homeless young people since operations began in 1977. BYS assist young people to find and maintain appropriate housing, address physical and mental health issues, establish successful relationships and support networks and provide them with pathways to education & long term employment.
Celebration is a fun and fantastic way to support the important work of Brisbane Youth Service while enjoying top-shelf refreshments and entertainment, with the chance to take home some incredible artwork and prizes. Celebration will be held at Minter Ellison, Level 22, Waterfront Place, Brisbane City on Friday 18 October from 530pm.
